Hipsters and Clogs

This was originally s a photoblog about two friends who in the same month find themselves moving nearly halfway around the world from each other. Bjorn went to Seattle, WA (Hipsters) and Neil went to Nijmegen, Netherlands (Clogs). This was their one photo per day conversation documenting the experience of moving to two brand new places, both far from home. ... At some point, Bjorn stopped posting. Neil kept up. Then Jen moved to San Francisco and took over the Hipsters duties.

  • Day 548, Clogs: Do you think I need a Belgium tag? We took the train to Antwerp for the afternoon. I took Dave to the Kulminator, which I’d visited on my trip last month. It has been named The Best Beer Bar In The World and at least one guide says “It’s worth making a special trip to Belgium just to visit this bar.”  It’s pretty great. I finally had my first beer from Westvleteren, one of the most sought after and highly rated producers in the beer geek world. (Read more over on Wikipedia.) It’s a special brewery, and I celebrated it by ordering a vintage 1979 beer. Actually, the owners of the bar don’t even know how old it is. They’re just pretty sure it’s “more or less 1979”. Assuming the year is accurate, Dave pointed out that it’s from when the Shah was in power. I noted that it was pre-Miracle on Ice. Guys, it was pretty good.
